I'm happy to see that "Jump" will be making someone smile, and the kitties were helped out a little bit.

"Jump" is an enchanting deck carving that brings to life a whimsical scene featuring a dapper frog in a Victorian waistcoat and pants. This piece seamlessly blends the elegance of Victorian fashion with the fantastical elements of a jungle setting, creating a unique and captivating piece.

At the heart of the composition is the distinguished frog, meticulously sculpted to showcase his refined attire and poised demeanor. He is depicted in the midst of a high-stakes card game, surrounded by spectral figures and the personification of Death, adding an intriguing layer of mystery and suspense to the scene.

The red Bicycle card angels frame the jungle setting, their ethereal presence enhancing the otherworldly atmosphere. The lush foliage and vibrant colors of the jungle provide a striking contrast to the ghostly figures and the somber presence of Death, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow.

Each card in the deck is intricately carved to highlight various elements of the scene, from the detailed patterns on the frog's waistcoat to the delicate features of the angels. The layered design adds depth and dimension, inviting viewers to explore the intricate details and hidden nuances within each card.

"Jump" is not just a celebration of artistic creativity but also a testament to the power of storytelling through visual art. It stands as a unique fusion of historical elegance and fantastical imagination, resonating with both fans of Victorian aesthetics and connoisseurs of contemporary art.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is layered sculpting?

The question I'm most asked.
Layered sculpting of playing cards is a creative art technique where individual playing cards are cut, shaped, and stacked to form a three-dimensional sculpture. This process involves carefully cutting out shapes from each card and layering them together to create depth and texture. The result is a unique piece of art that often features intricate designs and patterns, showcasing the versatility and aesthetic potential of playing cards

How did you get into carving decks.

I began deck carving out of necessity, initially selling my creations at art fairs in the Monterey, Carmel, and Pacific Grove areas. It wasn't long before my work gained recognition, leading to commissions from clients all along the West Coast.

Each piece I create is truly one-of-a-kind. The intricate nature of my work makes it nearly impossible to replicate any piece exactly. I'm deeply honored that people appreciate my art and choose to bring it into their homes and offices. A significant part of myself goes into every piece, making it a profound experience when someone connects with my work. It's a unique and deeply personal journey that's difficult to put into words.

How long does it take for you to do a carving?

Creating a deck can take anywhere from 20 to 40 hours from start to finish. Some decks come together faster than others. I have a large collection of amazing card decks and the art that comes with them. Some days, it's simply a matter of trying out different ideas until one of them clicks. Then there are days when I'm just trying to keep up as the piece seems to create itself.

This carved deck is a mind-blowing fusion of creativity and craftsmanship. The artist's ability to blend intricate details with a raw, edgy style makes each piece a standout
